Defeated Pride

A cardboard sign
Of a defeated pride
Flashes its message
Upon sightless eye
Eyes that have
Grown accustomed
They look away
Some may glance
But most they stray

The messenger
The same
Regardless the spot
A faceless face
Forlorn and distraught
A mother And father
A child Or two
A cardboard sign
I'll work for food

The passing of Humanity
With its ebb And flow
Its waves of Uncertainty
Erosion so slow
An ocean of indifference
A cry without sound
Swept away in the current

This mass
Of humanity
We view from within
A paradigm of faces
Stretched without end
The essence of its character
Quality and grace
Lies within the weakness
Of the faceless face...
